Thermlock

Thermlock - a patented thermally-enhanced reinforcing profile from Sheerframe systems company L.B. Plastics - enables Windows 2 Go to achieve C rated windows without the need for soft-coat glazing. Used with Sheerframe four chamber profiles, Thermlock ensures that even the most complex fully reinforced windows, achieve the 1.8W/m2K rating required.

The product is the result of a three-year development programme by L.B. Plastics and is available exclusively to Sheerframe fabricators. As well as its thermal performance, the new reinforcing suite - there are eight different profiles available for use with Sheerframe co-extruded 6000 and 7000 window systems - offers a range of other benefits.

'Thermlock delivers a torsional rigidity nine times better than steel. On deflection strength it is 50% stronger than standard aluminium. Once in place, its specially designed screw pick-up ridges make fixing into Thermlock easier, delivering 25% greater pull-out strength for handles, keeps, shootbolts and hinge fixings.' says Sheerframe product director David Strang.

'Many reinforced windows barely scrape through the current 2.OW/m2K requirement and will be unable to meet the new tougher standard without using soft-coat glazing. Thermlock represents a major breakthrough in window performance and delivers significant market advantage to Sheerframe window makers, enabling windows to meet the building regulation requirements whilst still using the traditional glazing materials.
